Dennis Fotinos – President & Chief Executive Officer
Dennis Fotinos began his career at Enwave in 1998 as Chairman of the Board when the company operated as the non-profit cooperative known as the Toronto District Heating Corporation. In that capacity, he initiated and executed the two-year corporate re-organization effort that gave rise to the private, for-profit company that Enwave is today.
In 2000, Mr. Fotinos joined the management team as Executive Vice President, Business Development. In that role, he re-branded the company as Enwave and developed the sales and marketing strategy that brought the company’s capabilities to market. In March 2001, he was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer with responsibility for the strategic direction and daily oversight of the company’s business including sales, business development and major construction projects.
As CEO, Mr. Fotinos’ organizational skills and entrepreneurial drive have turned-around the fortunes of the company. By implementing a new rate structure, signing long-term customer contracts, establishing a new gas buying strategy and aggressively marketing the company, he changed the way business had been done. Under his leadership, the company has enjoyed a period of sustained profitability and strong customer and employee satisfaction. His drive to develop the world-renowned Deep Lake Water Cooling project and his strong support of the arts, education and various social causes, have established Enwave as a leading corporate citizen and a market leader in the green energy and sustainability sector.
Mr. Fotinos has an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management and Schulich School of Business and Bachelors Degree in International Relations from the University of Toronto. He served as an elected member of regional and local governments in the City of Toronto from 1991 to 1999.
Dennis Fotinos is an active member in the Toronto community and has committed his time and energy over the years to a number of professional and charitable organizations. He recently completed a seven-year term on the Board of Directors of the International District Energy Association, culminating in his appointment as Chairman during the organization’s centennial year in 2009-10. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Harbourfront.
Carlyle Coutinho – Senior Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer
Carlyle Coutinho joined the Enwave team in 2013 as Senior Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer. Carlyle is directly responsible for the finance and accounting functions of the company, as well as working with the senior management team on gas procurement, steam pricing and new project development. Carlyle came to Enwave with over a decade of experience in the Private Equity, Debt Investment and Professional Services industries across North America.
In his last position at Hilco Consumer Capital, Carlyle was very instrumental in building a portfolio of North American equity investments, debt investments and joint ventures in iconic branded consumer companies and retailers including Polaroid, The Sharper Image, Bombay Company, Fredericks of Hollywood, Linens 'N Things, Tommy Armour Golf, Ram Golf, Halston, Ellen Tracy, Caribbean Joe, Marley, Atari, and Miss America. Furthermore, Carlyle's involvement extended to direct day to day operational and financial responsibility for Bombay Company, Linens 'N Things, Marley, Atari and Miss America. At Hilco, Carlyle gained valuable and diverse experiences, working on acquisitions through the bankruptcy process, financings, operating e-commerce businesses, asset dispositions and strategic business engineering and brand building in a variety of industries.
Prior to Hilco, Carlyle worked for a high net worth Canadian family office, making direct sub-debt, direct equity, private equity fund, hedge fund, and equity co-investments with large international private equity firms. Carlyle gained experience in industries including Power, Airline, Waste Management, Aircraft Leasing, and Real Estate.
Carlyle began his career in the professional services industry working at KPMG in their Financial Institutions and Real Estate practice and Financial Risk Management Group, and at Deloitte in the Financial Advisory Group.
Carlyle earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Wilfrid Laurier University, and is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Financial Analyst Charterholder.
Robert Furlan – VP, Energy Supply Services
As Vice President Energy Supply Services, Mr. Furlan is responsible for the overall efficiency of the district energy system and services provided, ensuring that everything we provide remains aligned with our customers' current and future needs.
Mr. Furlan enjoyed 15 years of senior operations experience in the manufacturing, health care and commercial property sectors. Prior to joining Enwave, he was the National Director, Green Services & Initiatives at Cadillac Fairview where he was instrumental in the connection of the Toronto Dominion Centre (TD Centre) to Enwave's Deep Lake Water Cooling System. Previously, in his earlier role as Director of Operations, he also led the largest commercial Energy retrofit in Canada at the TD Centre.
Mr. Furlan holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering and is a member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) and BOMA.
Alex Sotirov – VP, Engineering
Alex Sotirov has been VP of Engineering since April 2009. He originally joined Enwave in 1998 as Project Manager following one year of service with the Petro-Canada, Lake Ontario Refinery (Colt Engineering). His previous experience also includes Polysar Rubber (Bayer AG Company), Atomic Energy of Canada Limited, Public Works and Government Services Canada and Ontario Hydro Nuclear Operations, Western Division.
At Enwave, Mr. Sotirov was involved as a Project Manager in the design, construction and commissioning of the Simcoe Street Cooling Plant to accommodate Enwave's Deep Lake Water Cooling system during four stages of construction from 1998 to 2007. In addition, he led the installation and commissioning of 2 steam generators, providing a total of 11 MW of power.
He has provided technical and energy services to assist Enwave customers in optimizing the use of energy in their facilities during installation and commissioning of Enwave's cooling and
Mr. Sotirov has a Bachelor of Science (Mechanical Engineering) from the University of Waterloo.
